This bike was purchased in non running order with plenty of work to be done, but I didn't realize just how much until I took it to pieces. Seems to be a hybrid with lots of parts from different models and different years. I though the Air box covers being round the wrong way was just a simple mistake. Little was I to know that this 'theme' basically set the scene for the rest of the bike.

Some of the more notable points I discovered;

  • Frame has been hand painted, complete with brush strokes. What isn't painted was red with rust.
  • The electrics have been modified, hard wired in some places. Not sure if it's worth fixing the mods or if it's totally shot and needs to be replaced. Things like took the headlight unit out complete with bulbs and connectors only to find a second set of halogen type connectors hard wired to the harness.
  • The under-tank clips for routing the cables were bolted to the outside of the RAM Air cover.
  • Wheels were shot. The tyres are useable and the Hubs would be OK, but Rims and Spokes were rusted beyond use.
  • Chrome. Best I can say is it was still there. Rear guard will need to be chucked. Front guard seems to be from a very early model and is pretty naff. Chain guard, headlight and brackets may clean up, but realistically they will all need to be re chromed.
  • Locks are totally smashed. Assume keys had been lost at some time and a very large screwdriver or chisel was used.
  • Clocks. Bracket was upside down which I assume means they have been taken apart at some time. The lenses were broken. No idea if they work yet or if the mileage is reflective of the bike given the mismatch of parts I'm seeing.
  • Exhausts. All shot. Both outers were badly scratched and their internals were loose. Inners were actually welded together and to the header pipe. I had to use an angle grinder to cut this off the bike.
  • Seat was ripped, but should be able to recover.
  • And the list goes on....

All-in-all I think the bike had been put back together by someone without a manual of what goes where.

Lots and lots of bolts were loose or missing, many more were broken off in the recesses.Some parts missing, some bent or broken, looks like the bike had been down the road quite a few times in its life. Which one of the nine previous owners was the culprit.

Bike was stripped down and is currently in boxes waiting restore.
